About Project

Our lenses are being enhanced…and so too, the driving experience of motorists interacting with the traffic light systems along Claude Noel Highway, Scarborough. Together with Signal Specialist Limited, our traffic team technicians are changing out the video detection system (Autoscope SN510). It is being replaced with the Autoscope Rack Vision. It is an adjustment that bears no expense for the Tobago House of Assembly.

Project goals

According to the Specialist, the older model was inhibited by significant overhead lines and the shadow casting effect during the hours of darkness. An evaluation determined that when a shadow is cast into the camera during the night, this was being detected as vehicular movement, resulting in less than accurate responses.
The new Autoscope Rack Vision will allow for more precise detection and differentiation, given the zoom technology and more sophisticated response features.
Additionally, whilst the cameras are being used for vehicle detection, they also have the capability to capture traffic data, including vehicle speed, length, and turning movements, all of which can be used for future studies.
